For those having working in large companies nowadays, you’re likely be given access to customized Microsoft SharePoint Web Storage, either personalized staff account or official departmental/ section access. If you’re using company PC, most likelihood you’re accessing it via web based storage or using the official OneDrive for Business Application.
But how about iOS and Mac OS X?
I’ve looked for several solutions but some are not very convincing or not too reliable. There is an app using One Drive but it only support Office 365 Business account, but not the company dedicated Sharepoint server.
SharePoint with Microsoft Office Suite
Then I come to this conclusion, it is based to access the Sharepoint drive directly from the Microsoft Office Apps on iOS and Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac OS X.
These are the steps:
1.Download the Apps :
- iOS : Install respective apps of Microsoft Words, Excel and PowerPoint from Apps Store
- Mac: Install the latest Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac (You’ll need to subscribe to Office 365 account or standalone Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac.
- Once installed, open either one of the apps. For the purpose of this tutorial, I’m using Microsoft Excel on iOS At the bottom right of the app, select “Open”
Select “Open”
This is how it appears on Mac OS X:
On Mac OS X using Microsoft Office 2016. Select ‘Open’.
- Now, select “Add a Place”.
4. There will now an option to add Sharepoint address. Select ” Sharepoint Site URL”.
5. You can now add your Company/ Institution Sharepoint Web Storage URL.
Very Important.
The formating as such = https://”server address”/”whatever path toward the documents”.
Example:
- https://webs.yourcompany.com.my/personal/username/Documents/
- https://contentmanagement.yourcompany.com.my/Site/path to your Department or Section/
Enter your company Sharepoint URL
- Now enter your login details. Do not forget your domain.
Enter your username and password
- Once done. The Sharepoint folder will appear. Once selected, you will be able to view your folders within the web storage directly for this app.
Walla. That seems easy right. Next you can replicate the steps for all other apps, i.e Microsoft PowerPoints and Microsoft Words.
